Yes, there are many recipes out there for Tomatillo Green Salsa, but here I would like to show you how I make mine. I try to keep it as simple as possible.
What I really love about this salsa is that it’s not that spicy. The tomatillos have a tangy flavor, and the spiciness of the salsa will depend on how many serrano chiles you use.

How to use Tomatillo Green Salsa
- You can use it on tacos, burritos, or tostadas.
- It’s great just by itself with some corn chips.
- It can also be used as a marinade such as chicken, beef, or pork.


The first picture here is what the tomatillos will look like when they are purchased; they will have the husk. The second picture is what the tomatillos will look like once you remove the husk.

Let’s start making Tomatillo Green Salsa
Ingredients
Water– The water is to boil the tomatillos and serrano peppers.
Fresh tomatillos– The tomatillos come with a husk that you remove, and once it’s removed, you will notice the tomatillos are a bit sticky. Rinse off the stickiness from the tomatillos before using.
Serrano chilies- You can use jalapeno peppers if that’s what you have on hand.

Instructions
- Being by removing the husks from the tomatillos. You will see that the tomatillos are a bit sticky, then rinse the tomatillos to remove the stickiness. Cut the stems of the serrano chiles and rinse.
- In a 2-quart pot over medium to high heat, place water and bring to a boil. Then add the peeled tomatillos and serrano peppers; boil for 5-10 minutes until the tomatillos and serranos are soft and have turned slightly pale in color.
- Once the tomatillos and serranos are cooked, place them into a blender or food processor, then add garlic, onion, cilantro, and salt 1 teaspoon at a time. Blend for a few seconds; taste and adjust the salt to your liking.
How to store Tomatillo Green Salsa
- Any remaining salsa can be placed in an airtight container and placed in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.

1 pound fresh tomatillos
2–3 fresh serrano peppers
3 garlic cloves
Small piece of onion
Small handful of cilantro
1–2 teaspoons salt
