I have not been the type to buy pre-mixed seasonings, you know the one’s you buy in the package envelopes like taco seasoning, meatball seasoning, meatloaf seasoning and ect. Even when I first started learning how to cook I did not buy them, they never appealed to me.
At first I didn’t even know those package’s of seasoning had other ingredients other than spices. Why? why would they need to include other ingredient’s, I’m assuming for longer shelf life. Spices already have a long shelf life they only lose there potency with time.
When I first started learning how to cook I didn’t know how to season certain food’s, especially if it was something new I was working with.
These three spices became my go to spices, when I have no idea how to season something these are the one’s I use….
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Salt
I use these so often that one day I got tired of opening each individual container, I decided to just combined them and here is my ratio…
Universal seasoning
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoon black pepper
- 4 tablespoon garlic salt
- 2 tablespoon salt
Directions
1. In a small bowl mix black pepper, garlic powder and salt.
2. Store in an air tight jar.
