Description

Do you want a good easy mashed potato recipe that doesn't taste bland but is simple to make, and is full of flavor? I have the perfect recipe here, Classic Mashed Potatoes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 lbs potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup butter (or 1 stick )
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a 5-7 quart pot, fill 3/4 of the pot with water, place lid on top. And place on the stove over high heat, bring to a boil.
  2. While water is coming up to a boil, peel and cut 3 pounds of potatoes into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Once the water comes to a boil, remove the lid and place potatoes in the pot. Lower down heat to a simmer, let simmer for about 15 mins until potatoes are fully cooked.
  4. When the fork goes through the potato easily, the potatoes are done.
  5. Drain potatoes from water into a colander, place potatoes back into the pot.
  6. Add butter.
  7. Then add milk and 1/2 & 1/2, mix well.
  8. Add salt and garlic powder, mix well.
  9. With a potato masher mash the potatoes, until desired consistency. If you want it extra smooth use an electric mixer.
  10. Adjust any of the seasonings or milk, if needed.

Notes

  • If you like your potatoes smooth but with some texture, keep the skin on the potato.
