Don’t buy the instant box mix, the taste does not compare. For instance; making mashed potatoes from scratch doesn’t take as long as you might think. With a little bit of organization, it can be made in less than 25 mins.

Ingredients to make Classic Mashed Potatoes

I can see why people shy away from making it from scratch, they think it just takes too long. Here I share with you two things you can do to cut your cooking time in half.

Tips

  • Cut your potatoes into small 1inch cubes. This helps the potatoes cook a lot faster.
  • Put a lid on your pot of water. This helps bring your water to a boil a lot faster.

The holidays are around the corner and what is it about the holidays that we remember? It’s the food, the food is what brings the memories. The smell of the food cooking, the taste of your favorite dish, and the warmth of your favorite people around you. This holiday season don’t cheat yourselve with just OK food. Make it special, memorable, and make what you can from scratch.

Let’s start making Classic Mashed Potatoes

  1. In a 5-7 quart pot, fill 3/4 of the pot with water, place lid on top. And place on the stove over high heat, bring to a boil.
  2. While water is coming up to a boil, peel and cut 3 pounds of potatoes into 1-inch cubes.
  3. Once the water comes to a boil, remove the lid and place potatoes in the pot. Lower down heat to a simmer, let simmer for about 15 mins until potatoes are fully cooked.
  4. When the fork goes through the potato easily, the potatoes are done.
  5. Drain potatoes from water into a colander, place potatoes back into the pot.
  6. Add butter.
  7. Then add milk and 1/2 & 1/2, mix well.
  8. Add salt and garlic powder, mix well.
  9. With a potato masher mash the potatoes, until desired consistency. If you want it extra smooth use an electric mixer.
  10. Adjust any of the seasonings or milk, if needed.
