One-Pot Homemade Hamburger Helper

This One-Pot Homemade Hamburger Helper is a life changer, so quick and easy to make, full of flavor. The pasta is cooked to perfection, and the ground beef does not disappoint in flavor.

Pasta dishes are huge in this household, so I try to develop different ways of dressing them up. This dish here is my take of Hamburger Helper, even though my kids have never had it. But for the first time them ever trying it, they absolutely loved it. I never realized how easy it is to make. The box of hamburger helper that they sell the box is only the pasta shells and the seasoning. You still have to buy the meat, the milk, and maybe other ingredients; it just makes more sense to make it from scratch.

Let’s start making One-pot Homemade Hamburger Helper

Ingredient

  • Ground beef– I use lean ground beef, but you can use whatever you like. If you use one that’s higher in fat, which is fine, remove some of the extra greases after it’s cooked and add your spices.
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Salt
  • Paprika
  • Tomato paste
  • Beef broth– This gives it a great beefy flavor, but you can definitely use any broth you like, or even just water will work.
  • Heavy cream– You can use heavy whipping cream or half and half.
  • Elbow pasta- You can use any small size pasta that you prefer.
  • Shredded cheddar cheese– You can use mozzarella, monterey jack, or any type of cheese that you like.

Instructions

  1. In a 3 quart pot over medium to high heat, place a little oil (to cook the ground beef) and ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and paprika. Cook for about 5 minutes until beef is no longer pink.
  2. Once the ground beef has cooked, add tomato paste; mix well.
  3. Then add beef broth and heavy cream, bring to a boil, add pasta; cover the pot and turn down to low, cook for 15-20 minutes until pasta is fully cooked and has absorbed all the liquid.
  4. Once the pasta is done, turn off the stove, then add the cheese mix well until all cheese has melted.
