Oil- This is for sauteing garlic, onion, and ground beef.

Garlic cloves

Ground beef- I use 93/7 percent fat, but you could use one that’s higher in fat if you prefer.

Chicken broth- If you don’t have chicken broth, you can also use beef broth or even vegetable broth.

Ketchup

Brown sugar

Navy beans– Any white bean will work.

Yellow mustard

Salt

Cornstarch– This is used as a thicking agent; if you don’t have cornstarch, you can use all-purpose flour. It will work just the same.

Water

Instructions

  1. In a 3-quart pot over medium to high heat, place oil and wait for it to be hot; then place onions, garlic, and ground beef. Saute for 5-8 minutes until the ground beef is no longer pink.
  2. Place broth, navy beans, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, bay leaf, and salt. Bring to a boil, then down to a simmer, and cover for 20 minutes. 
  3. Place cornstarch and water mix well in a small bowl, then place in the pot and mix well. Bring back to a simmer and cover for 5 minutes.

This Simple Baked Beans with Ground Beef is sweet with a bit of savory. It makes a great side to any dinner, or it can even be the main dish.


Ingredients

2 tablespoon oil

1 medium onion, diced

23 garlic cloves, minced

1 pound ground beef, I use 93/7% fat but you can a higher perecntage of fat if you like. Be sure after cooking the beef to remove any excess fat if using a higher fat of ground beef.

1 cup chicken broth

3 16 oz can navy beans, rinsed. You can use anyother white bean of your choice.

1/2 cup ketchup

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

23 bay leafs, depending on size

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon cornstarch, for the slurry

1 tablespoon water, for the slurry


Instructions
