Here I would like to share How to make my own Brown Sugar. This is nothing new but I feel it has been forgotten.
Brown sugar is so easy to make and making your own has more benefits than buying it made at the store. Why? you say because what makes brown sugar brown is the use of molasses. Molasses is a thick syrup that’s rich in calcium, iron and potassium. What exactly is it? it’s boiled down sugar cane juice, when its boiled down it’s removing the sucrose and leaves a thick strong flavored syrup thats 46% sugar.
Just recently I’ve learned more about molasses the benefits and how it’s made. I don’t know why it has taken me so long to start making my own. From now on I intend to use it more often in my recipes.
And here is a good start with making brown sugar.
Molasses reminds me of the holiday’s just with the smell. It’s one of those ingredient’s that you buy during the holiday’s to make that special recipe and only use once then sits in your cupboard til the next holiday season.
When a recipes calls for brown sugar I’ve been using my own, I’ve noticed a big difference in taste. The flavor is a bit stronger because of the molasses. But the taste of your creations does not compare.
What type of sugar should I use?
Pure Sugar Cane, its extracted from the sugar cane but still has some of the molasses and moister from the plant. It is refined but not as refined as your table white sugar.
What type of molasses should I use?
Unsulphured molasses, it is made without the use of synthetic chemicals.
