Description

This is the most easy and flavorful shredded chicken you can make. Cooking the chicken in the broth is a game changer. The onion, garlic, salt, and peppercorns give it that extra flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 23 pounds chicken breast
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 large onion, cut in quarters
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. In a 5-quart pot, place chicken breast, broth, onion, garlic cloves, whole peppercorns, and kosher salt.
  2. Place on the stovetop over high heat, boil, and then simmer for 40 minutes until the chicken breast shreds easily.
  3. Place cooked chicken in a bowl. Once it’s cooled enough to touch, shred the chicken by hand or use a mixer.

Notes

  • The remaining place in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week
  • You can keep it in the freezer for extended storage for up to six months as long as it’s placed in a bag such as a ziplock bag. Before closing the ziplock bag, squeeze out as much air as possible.
