Spicy Tofu and Fried Rice

This is the first recipe in which I learned how to cook tofu it was about 11 years ago. I’ve always known about tofu but never bought it because I didn’t know to how to cook it.

One day I got my hand on a little calender where it had the month on one side and a healthy recipe on the other. The first time I saw a recipe for tofu I was so excited to try it, more because it was easy to make and it was something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time.

Here are the things I like about tofu:

  • It’s a great meat substitute if your trying to eat less meat.
  • It’s filling.
  • It’s already cooked, all you have to do is heated it through.
  • Seasonings are unless.
  • It has about 10 g of protein in 1/2 cup, if protein is something your worried about.
  • It’s inexpensive which I love, for a 14 oz container of tofu your looking at $1.50 depending on the brand.

Here is what tofu looks like. My favorite to use is firm to extra firm.

Tofu has a lot of water and it comes in water to keep it persevered. Before using it, you need to remove the water by wrapping it in paper towels to absorb the water.

Then you cut into cubes.

Then you dip the tofu into this mix: soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, garlic powder and ground ginger.
