How to make Brown Rice

Want to start eating healthy, but don’t where you should start? How about starting with some rice. Here I will share with you How to make Brown Rice. It’s a great healthy grain to begin your journey. This recipe here is fluffy, creamy, and foolproof.

At first, I didn’t know how to make brown rice. I would buy it because it was a lot healthier than white rice. But when I would make it, it would take forever to cook, or I would add too much water, not enough water. I just couldn’t get it right. Until one day I read somewhere about soaking your rice. That got me thinking, brown rice is a bit of a harder grain than white rice because it still has its fibrous bran. So, how about soaking it as if it were beans, then cooking it. It turned out to be the key to perfectly cooked rice, in my opinion.

Ingredients to make Brown Rice

What is brown rice?

Brown rice is a whole grain with only its outer layer of hull is removed.

Why should you soak it?

Soaking your rice cuts down on your cooking time and also reduces the amount of broth you need.

What do you add to make it taste great?

To make it taste great, use broth instead of water, and adding some butter makes it taste a bit creamy.

How to make Brown Rice

Let’s start making Brown Rice

  • Place rice in a colander and rinse the rice under running water, until water runs clear.
  • In a small bowl place rice and add enough water to cover, about an inch or 2.
  • Soak overnight or for about 6-8 hours.
  • Once soaked, in a 1-2 quart pot place rice, broth, and butter; bring to a boil.
  • Once it comes to a boil, cover, and bring down to low heat.
  • Cook for 30-40 mins.

Tips

  • If you don’t have broth, you can use Better than Bouillon concentrated base paste. My favorite flavor is the Seasoned Vegetable Base.
  • Add 2 teaspoons of concentrated base paste to your water.
