Easy Alfredo Sauce

This Easy Alfredo Sauce will surprise you with how easy it to make and delicious it is. It only requires a few ingredients to make and can be made in less than 10 minutes.

For a long time, I always bought the Ragu jar of pasta sauce, which cost about $2, and with the store brand of pasta for $1, and there you go, you have a meal for 5 under $3. But then I got to thinking about all the ingredients in the jars of sauces, and because I do make a lot of pasta for the kids, I got thinking, “how hard is it to make the sauce from scratch?”. I went online in search of a recipe and realized it’s not that difficult, and it does not take as long as I thought.

Easy Alfredo Sauce

That is where I began making my own pasta sauce. After many tries, I finally got it right; this one was a bit tricky, well, not tricky, but it takes a bit of practice. It’s the roux; the cooking of the flour is the key to thicken this sauce.

Let’s start making Easy Alfredo Sauce

Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter– You can use salted butter if you prefer or have it on hand; I like to use unsalted because I’m able to control the salt that goes in the sauce.
  • All-purposed flour– The flour is used to thicken the sauce.
  • Milk
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Fettuccine pasta– You can use any pasta if you like.

Instructions

  1. Over medium to high heat, add unsalted butter into a 2-quart saucepan; once it has melted, lower the heat to medium to low, add flour and continuously mix for 2-3 minutes. You want the flour to cook a little if it begins to bubble lower down the heat.
  2. Over medium heat, add milk to the saucepan and continuously mix for 5-7 minutes until the milk has thickened and coats the back of a spoon.
  3. Once it has thickened, turn off the heat, add black pepper, salt, and parmesan cheese; mix well until the cheese has melted.
  4. Pour sauce over your favorite pasta and enjoy.

Notes

  • This sauce makes enough for 1 pound of pasta.
  • The sauce is best made in a heavy bottom pot, for example, a cast iron.
