Homemade “Tajin”

I remember growing up we use to go to Mexico every summer to visit our grandparent’s from my mom’s side. First thing we looked forward to was eating fruit topped with chili powder, kosher salt and lemon juice. We are talking almost 30 years ago (wow has it been that long).

It’s compared to the now popular chili powder Tajin but spicer. You can put it on just about any fruit or veggie, it sure makes eating your fruits and veggies much more enjoyable.

I never knew exactly how it was made but this is my take on it.

Homemade “Tajin”

Ingredients

  • 3-4 oz of dried Chili New Mexico
  • 6-7 dried Chil De Arbol
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Open chili’s and take out the seeds.
  2. Place chili’s and salt in a blender or coffee grinder.
  3. Blend until it turns into a powder.
  4. Then sprinkle on any fruit or veggie of your choice and add a squeeze of lemon.

On a sidenote

  • This makes about 2 oz.
  • It will last a few month’s.
